Virtual PMO and planning support – Chemical company

Core Consulting Group (CCG) was engaged by one of the world’s largest providers of commercial explosives and blasting systems to the mining, quarrying, oil and gas and construction markets, sodium cyanide for gold extraction, and ground support services in mining and tunnelling.

Our client was a large company with a global presence and geographically dispersed Project teams.  They implemented EPM Live as their PPM tool, see our Case study EPM Live Implementation – Chemical company.  They were running a large Commercialisation Program and had a Master Scheduler who was good at MS Project, but was not experienced in using EPM Live.  They wanted someone who was capable at both, and could work well with global teams without supervision.

Having worked with CCG before, Orica were confident in finding someone who could fulfil the role from a technical as well as a communications and influencing perspective.  CCG provided a resource to them on an agreed manhours per week basis.  This provide flexible coverage, with the ability to handle out of Australian working hours queries and support, mostly done off site.  CCG were able to not only efficiently fulfil the role but also share knowledge of both EPM Live and advanced MS Project along the way.  This enabled our client to reduce their dependence on us over time.

Having implemented EPM Live, CCG was able to run the system for the client, focusing on data quality, chasing up incomplete or out of date status update information.  Over time our client was provided with improved reporting so could focus on their governance role.
