Core Consulting Group (CCG) was engaged by one of Melbourne’s leading not-for-profit providers of residential aged care, in–home care, respite care, housing services and retirement living in Victoria. Our client cares for more than 4,000 older people each year through an integrated range of community, home-based aged care services as well as specialist residential care and accommodation across Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and regional Victoria.
CCG has assisted our client with a number of initiatives aimed at maturing their Portfolio, Program, Project management capability, see Governance consulting – Aged care provider. After implementing a basic Project Management Framework and Project Governance model, we were requested to assist them to implement a simple EPM tool using their existing SharePoint technology. Needing to minimise the cost, both up front and ongoing, it was decided to build them a simple bespoke solution using SharePoint and SSRS reporting.
The objective was to centralise data, providing a single source of truth. CCG used a 4 step approach to the engagement:
- Step 1: Agree Requirements through mock ups and a Data Dictionary
- Step 2: Configuration and data loading (using SSIS)
- Step 3: Configure Reporting (using SSRS)
- Step 4: User Training.
CCG started with our client’s existing SharePoint, configuring a SharePoint Site collection but deployed using the more advanced Form Designer as well as a second reporting instance. With close involvement of users, CCG and our client, we worked in an iterative manner, verifying the system as it was configured.

- Improved visibility of cost and risk
- Improved governance, especially of changes
- Standardised Project Status reporting
