Core Consulting Group (CCG) were engaged by one of Australia’s largest energy retailers with over 2.7 million households as customers across South East Australia. The retailers Information Services (IS) group were responsible for IT systems support and ongoing development, their PMO engaged us to assist with Resource Management.
CCG had experience with Resource Management and had implemented a Visual Basic driven automated tool using Excel for a number of customers. The tool had been developed by a business associate of ours. The client’s need was for a rolling resource model across the whole of IS in order to drive prioritisation of tasking as well as capacity planning. They did not wish to implement any other more traditional Enterprise Project Management (EPM) tool functions and wished to keep data centralised. For this reason the Excel tool seemed like a good fit.
After agreeing requirements, CCG configured and implemented the tool while also assisting with collecting Project and Resource data. We helped collect resource planning data from various parts of the organisation, the allocation of effort by resource and/or skill type. In this instance the resource model was owned by the Line Manager, so data collection involved discussions with both the Line Managers and the Project Managers.
Stakeholder engagement, together with training of users and stakeholders ensured the tool and resource modelling was implemented successfully and that the customer was self sufficient after go live.
