Core Consulting Group (CCG) was engaged by one of Australia’s leading Engineering Manufacturers of stainless steel tanks and Vessels. Their client base includes many of industry’s most reputable multi-national and domestic companies.
Our client had been using several systems in silos which had worked for them in the past, however they were looking for a way to increase workshop productivity and forecast workshop resource supply and demand better. They use Microsoft Project, so searched online for MS Project consultants where they found CCG. We were approached to review their processes and recommend a path of improvement using Microsoft Office technology. After spending a day in their workshop, we developed a quick Proof of Concept, using a combination of MS Project, Project Online and Power BI, which was well received.
We were then engaged to implement a full Project Online EPM tool for them. Our client’s objectives were to have a single source of truth for workshop progress, and reduced handling of data to achieve reporting. This enabled them to focus on getting more work done in the workshop. Based on our experience, we knew that the client would achieve success through a combination of tools and process improvements.
We proceeded by delivering the following:
- Simple but stable configuration of Project Online
- Scheduling Standards
- User training on MS Project best practice
- Reporting through Power BI
The system was then trialled side by side with their current tools for a 2-month assessment period to measure the benefits of the new system and to minimise risk by having the old system available. The outcome was an EPM tool that was easy to use, fit for purpose, minimised change from report recipient’s perspective and staff on the workshop floor.
Key elements of the solution included:
- Advisory and consulting services providing guidance for process improvement
- Project Online configuration
- Scheduling standards for MS Project
- Power BI report development
- Training and support
