Program Planner Scheduler – Telecommunications

Core Consulting Group (CCG) was engaged by one of Australia’s medium sized Telecommunications providers.  Our client was a national telecommunications carrier which specialised in high performance, premium data services for the corporate, government and carrier markets.  After announcing plans to build Australia’s first purpose built subsea fibre optic network for the oil and gas industry they realised they needed a consistent approach to Program Planning, particularly since there was a large outsourced component to the network.

CCG was engaged to build out the integrated Program schedule across multiple organisations involved, particularly focused on the identification and tracking of dependencies between all parties.

When CCG was engaged some of the work had been planned already.  Our initial focus was to plan out the internal work and integrate it into the master schedule.  We also focused on establishing the scheduling standards including a number of custom fields MS Project 2010 to allow easier identification and linking of dependencies.  In order to bring the entire program of work together some initial high level planning and scheduling was performed with key stakeholders in order to ensure component schedules met the overall timeline.

Once the component schedules were developed, CCG was able to bring together an integrated program schedule by linking up the dependencies that had been identified in each schedule.  Through tagging of reportable items, a high level summary schedule could also be provided to decision makers.  This provided management with a mechanism to track the entire program of work that spanned multiple parties and extended across multiple years.  We were able to output a representation of high level work which fed into more graphic PowerPoint presentations for reporting to the Steering Committee, customers and partners.
