ERP Program Support – Fast moving consumer goods

Core Consulting Group (CCG) was engaged by one of Australia’s larger food businesses with some of Australia’s most well known brands.  Their foods included dry, packaged and fresh meats.  The client had initiated a program to implement JD Edwards EnterpriseOne as its replacement Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

CCG was brought on to support the Program Management team and for the implementation of a Program Management Office (PMO).  We commenced with an initial review with a number of recommendations plus a proposed implementation plan.  Our recommendations included the implementation of a Program Management Office (PMO).  The initial review was carried out over several weeks combining interviews, project artefact review, observation, informal discussion and industry best practice review.

After the successful completion of the initial review and the creation of an implementation plan, CCG was asked to guide the implementation of the recommendations including establishing the PMO to work with the program management team to support their management and decision-making.  This work included; structure and staffing, Program Management standards, developing the Program plan, uplifting program planning & scheduling capability, implementing tracking/controls and reporting processes and systems.  The processes and systems implemented saw integrated control elements including Risk, Change control, Schedule and Cost control.  All of these were further integrated with the Enterprise PMO.

We implemented specific project management practice standards which aligned to industry best practice including CCG’s own planning/scheduling and reporting standards.  We implemented schedule and financial governance to enable accurate and timely reporting.  We enhanced project information capture and reporting to include; actual hours, separation of OPEX and CAPEX costs on projects and progress reporting against baseline.

The outcome was a management, planning and control framework that provided visibility, information and analysis for decision makers enabling program releases to be planned and executed successfully.

Key elements of the solution included:
