Melbourne Airport – MAPP Framework Implementation

Melbourne Airport is owned and operated by Australia Pacific Airports Melbourne Pty Ltd and operates the Tullamarine and Launceston airports on behalf of the Australian Government and has a significant capital program of work to undertake. Melbourne Airport undertook a program to “Grow Project Management Capability” that acknowledged the need to address process, toolsets and people. The capability growth was across their project management, sponsor and executive management communities. Melbourne Airport needed to update their current MAPP Framework to include industry best practice. Melbourne Airport also wanted to take advantage of newer technology in presenting their MAPP Framework.

Core Consulting Group was selected to assist Melbourne Airport in providing a centralised project management methodology as part of this program. Drawing from Melbourne Airport’s own paper based MAPP Framework and existing documentation, CCG brought together their existing intellectual property, along with existing CCG intellectual property, industry best practice and CCG’s experience in the Construction and IT industries, to develop and implement an online framework accessible by all staff through Melbourne Airport’s intranet. CCG expanded the MAPP Framework to provide online access to project management processes and key templates. In addition to the MAPP Framework, CCG provided a maintenance process for ongoing changes.

As a result of this engagement, Melbourne Airport has been able to apply a standardised process and approach to project management so that duplication and inefficiencies are reduced. In providing online access to all staff as a single source, consistency in project delivery approach has been made possible. In using SharePoint, Melbourne Airport was able to integrate with their current intranet and project management system, providing collaboration capabilities.
