Course outline

Project Manager focused; assumption that they have already done equivalent of basic MS Project training. Note this end user focused, it does not cover Administrative functions of MS Project Server. Nor does it cover Line Manager functions (Resource Management & Timesheeting) or Executive user functions.

1 day course covering:

  • Introduction/overview – what is MS Project Server, how will my life change (content depends on degree of change and experience)
  • Navigating PWA, Checking In/Out and Publishing.  Includes Project Centre, custom views and Project details pages (incl overview of project level custom fields)
  • Using task level custom fields, filters and views in MS Project Professional, discussion about mandatory fields and handy “Check filters”
  • Meeting the new “Scheduling standard” – refresher/reminder depending on background of participants
  • Building the team, modelling resource effort
  • Timesheeting and Resource Management considerations
  • Modelling & forecasting costs (if included, depends on degree of finance integration)
  • Navigating the Project Site:
    • Issues & Risks
    • Change Requests
    • Deliverables
    • Project Documents
    • Lessons Learned (or other depending on configuration)
  • Reporting (varies by customer, focus on KPIs and data sources, reporting cycles etc)
  • Other content as required (eg Timesheet approval)
